Episode #2 — The Scorpio Races

Renay and Susan discuss The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater, complete with opinions about genre and marketing, feelings about horse narratives, and screaming rage about unnamed mothers. The horses are not optional. Spoilers for the entire book. Download the episode for an hour of wheezing laughter and Renay high on horse stories cough syrup.

Considering I talk about recommending this to you because "horror fiction!" on the podcast itself, I agree that you should! :D

Ok, cool I am doing it. I have read the first four chapters - so much more my thing than Shiver.

So finished the book and I really enjoyed listening to the podcast. Now my review will just be all 'Renay and Susan said X - that was really smart'. The terrible, terrible first draft is already up to 3,500 words :\ So good job pulling me into The Scorpio Races Renay. And thanks for making this you two :)

Your pronunciation seems fine to me, I used the Irish pronunciations, the setting felt like a windswept Irish or Scottish island to me. Capall is horse & uisce is water. Water horse :)

I've always been a horse fan. Black Beauty is the first book I can ever remember buying. I had the same copy for years and years with my name and age proudly written on the cover (either 6 or 8, I can't remember anymore), alas I lost it over the years, but it is still one of my all time favourite books. On account of horses!!! So I loved that aspect of this, they were like the ultimate horrifying but also exceptionally wonderful wild horses that only the very special can hope to tame. Ultimate fantasy, and yet so well done in the book. My first, and my favourite Maggie Stiefvater book.

I sincerely believe we need to start a movement to bring this book to anyone who loves stories about (terrifying, killer) horses.
