Each month, we look back over the media we loved in the previous month, from books to film to video games and more.

The Lotus Palace Series by Jeannie Lin — These romance/mystery novels set in Tang Dynasty China are a lot of fun! I still haven’t read the newest one which came out last month, but I’m looking forward to it! I really enjoyed the setting and all the little details that brought it to life. Also the characters are great!

One Cut of the Dead — One Cut of the Dead is possibly the most meta film I've seen in years. It's a horror-comedy about a film crew making a low-budget zombie movie, who're suddenly interrupted by an actual zombie uprising. The twist? The whole film is one take. Like. It's worth watching for that alone, to be honest, because holy shit, doing a film in one cut that has action scenes? That takes work. And seeing how that work comes together and how it explains some of the design choices is absolute genius! I keep bouncing between "This film is not good" and "This film is fucking art," so I really need someone to come and help me decide which.
The Great British Sewing Bee and The Great Pottery Throwdown — I have needed very light, gentle crafting shows recently, which means that The Great British Sewing Bee and The Great Pottery Throwdown were perfect. I basically mainlined both of them while doing my own craft projects. Look at all these people being kind to each other while making things! Look at these absolutely bananas challenges that they're throwing at people! Look at all of these people being openly, joyfully queer on the fucking BBC of all places! Look at all of the smutty jokes! They're very cozy, is what I'm saying, so if that's something you need: can I offer you a crafting show in these trying times?
