At the end of every week, we gather at Lady Business HQ to share media thoughts and chat about the recent happenings in our tiny spheres of human experience. Feel free to join in, but note our comment policy if you're new! :D
As always, puns are welcome.
This week ends with a solidarity fistbump for all the girls in the audience of Ghostbusters (2016) who had or will have their sexual awakening due to Kate McKinnon.

(We also finally named this. Go us.)

Date: 2016-07-16 07:09 am (UTC)A bunch of folks were talking about If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo on Twitter and I decided to check it out. It was pretty good!
I also read Shrill by Lindy West (funny, gutting, raw) and Poisoned Blade by Kate Elliott (sequel to Court of Fives, comes out in August, JUST LEAVE ME HERE TO DIE, etc.)
I watched Ghostbusters! I was debating writing something up about why I loved it and why the original completely fails to hold up for me but does the world really need yet another ~thinkpiece~ about this franchise??? Dubious.
Also, I feel like Avengers Academy is hinting that I'm incompetent, because they keep straight up giving me things, like, "you're never going to make it to 30 spider coins, we'll just boost you up silently." MAYBE IF YOU MADE YOUR EVENTS LESS COMPLICATED. On the other hand I have Mary Jane and Black Cat (LADIES) so I'm pleased.
...and I downloaded Pokemon Go. *heavy sigh* It's cute and fun and my first thought was "this is hella inaccessible to people with social/mobility issues." Plz let me catch more Pokemon without leaving my neighborhood, Niantic. THX.

Date: 2016-07-16 09:17 am (UTC)Great cats :)
'bout to go spaing which I always have mixed feelings about because there are other people and so I'm not just gonna be allowed to just chill reading while doing nothing. Also I haven't packed yet which was a dope move. In other news I haven't read anything in forever and am stuck in the middle of tons of books + TV series. Please advise me on what my next move should be.

Date: 2016-07-16 06:00 pm (UTC)I also finished the third season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars this week. It ends with two arcs—one where Anakin and company have to break out a Jedi and then-Captain Tarkin from a super-secret prison and one where Ahsoka gets kidnapped and sent to be the victim in a Most Dangerous Game scenario where she teams up with some lost Jedi younglings and Chewbacca to save the day. I'm enjoying the show as connective tissue for Anakin's character arc through the whole series, and I definitely cried at the end of the season. It's nice to see Anakin immediately respect Tarkin, as someone who believes in victory at all costs, and to see Anakin be so destroyed by the idea that he can't rescue Ahsoka. And when she returns, he's so apologetic, and you really start to see Anakin's issues regarding losing people.
All my Anakin feelings are coming out.

Date: 2016-07-18 01:30 pm (UTC)Also, am playing and enjoying PokemonGo so much, but absolutely acknowledge there are issues with it for plenty of people. But I am loving for me that I need help with motivation to get out of the house and this has been a massive help with that, and I've enjoyed so many parts of my local area I've never explored before as a result. I'm very lucky where I live though, wonderful park nearby that is well cared for and valued etc. Also, I've never before had an experience where a thing I've fallen into loving and doing is also a Big Thing that lots of other people are involved with too - like never! It's strange but kind of nice for a change. Usually I'm a micro fandom or late-to-the-party fandom kind of person.
I also read 'Cinder' by Melissa Meyer in a few hours because I couldn't put it down. Loved cyborg Cinder, hope the Prince's personality gets rounded out more and looking forward to seeing what happens in the next installment. Did find the ending was a bit abrupt and not so much appreciating the cliffhanger note. But... it does immediately make me want to go get the next one, so I guess it's pretty successful in that sense and if TV can do it, then why not books? It's definitely not my favourite plot device though.
Also read the full serial collaboration novel 'Tremontaine' and loved it so much. It was delightful - the right amount of chewy and depth without making me work too hard compared with just being able to enjoy the hell out of everything and the characters and their stories.
