Well, I HOPE EVERYONE LIKES FANART. It's like I'm back in the 90s and just discovering it again. I'm just gonna go ahead and blame most, if not all, of this art on lariagwyn. Seems legit.

[FIC] [Captain America: The Winter Soldier] Let Your Backbone Flip by hansbekhart (18,600) (Sam, Steve)
Really heartwarming and lovely. A perfect, super on point Sam story that runs parallel to another (I read the other second and liked it, but connected with this one more). It's a sharp look at Sam Wilson, his friendship with Steve Rogers (THE TEXTING. I was crying in laughter, OH MY GOD), and what his choices mean for his future. Really liked the friendship dynamics here, between Steve and Sam, and the bright glimpses of the moments and people who created the man that would follow Captain America back into the fight. Wonderful.

All right, if the show's not gonna give me Melissa and the Sheriff having an absolutely covert affair that results in BABIES, it's fine, fandom will do it for me. This was charming from the beginning with Stiles getting protective of Melissa to the super adorable ending with awkward realizations and make outs. This is my preferred type of kidfic: give Scott and Stiles a sibling. Give them multiple siblings. I want them all.

Ahahaha I didn't know I wanted this story until I read it and when I finished I turned around and read it again. I'm super into the idea of Sam and Rhodey giving each other tons of shit about their respective skills as flirting and then making out a lot afterward, and the awkwardness between them at the beginning is so gutting, cause you know that there was about to be an exchange of numbers until the truth comes out. This is clever and hot and awesome!

The second series of Peaky Blinders starts on Thursday *squee*. This West Midlander is excite!

So far, Blood on Your Shirt is my favourite Peaky Blinders vid. I love the diversity of footage used; particularly that it uses shots from Tommy's experience in the tunnels in WWI as the war is a huge influence on the Shelby's and their community. This vid is a slick visual experience that I'd watch as much for the shots it chooses, and the way it mixes them together, as for the narrative it builds.

This vid is all about the bombastic male posturing and hot mess of violence that Peaky Blinders contains. If you're interested in seeing a lingering, raw treatment of this show's violence then this is the vid for you.

I love the colour effect on this vid. The footage is mainly sort of grayscale washed out, but the vidder lets some pink colouring come through to light up faces and there's a lot of red detail which pops against the duller colour of the majority of the footage.

At first, I thought the red was included so the vid enhanced the drama of the violent scenes by highlighting the blood. However, on a second viewing I realised that red might be used as a main colour because the vid wants Grace's red dress, and as a consequence Grace, to be a source of focus for the viewer. If that's what this vid is doing I approve — Grace is excellent and you should all nominate this show for Festivids 2014 so we get more vids about her.

[GIFSET] [Guardians of the Galaxy] Mixtape Gifset by nabees2 (Full cast)
The cutest gifset I've seen in ages. nabees2 has created gorgeous flashy graphic headers for all the tracks on Peter's Awesome Mixtape Vol. 1 and mixed them with scenes from the film. The variety of fonts used for the track listings is so much fun and they're all linked in so well with either the decade or the type of music the track represents. Sure to make you go all nostalgic even if you weren't around for these songs the first time.

Thank you for these recs, particularly the Peaky Blinders fanvids. I really love this show, especially the way it explores issues of community-sanctioned violence (and the fact that communities may accept a sort of devil's bargain of violent control in order to obtain protection against violence at the hands of those outside the community), and the vids - especially 'Blood On Your Shirt' - highlighted this aspect of the show really well.

I hope we see more Grace-centric vids, and also vids about Ada and Polly, who are my favourite characters on the show.

Did you see the killer Grace shot at the beginning of S2? I think that shot crowns all the S1 footage and should make people especially interested in vidding her, but I hope the show gets nominated for festivids and people pick up all the female characters.
