[ART] [Captain America] Natasha sends the cutest texts!! by [tumblr.com profile] illustratedkate (Natasha)
One of my favorite bits of The Winter Soldier was Natasha's cute text to Steve. There's a world of emoticons out there, though, and I have every confidence Natasha uses them to her full advantage. "NO! :) :)"

[ART] [Captain America] sometimes even the supersoldiers need to recharge their batteries by [tumblr.com profile] maria-tries (Steve/Bucky)
This is so bittersweet. ♥ Something about the combination of the little recharging symbol, their socked feet and Bucky's grip of Steve's shirt sock me in the heart. I love art that hits you with this much emotion without any facial expressions whatsoever.

[ART] [Captain America] Steve/Bucky by [tumblr.com profile] kaciart (NSFW)
Hi, I'm not over this ship yet. Probably it's obvious that I'm not, but just in case my continued flailing/weeping went unnoticed, have some kissing (and probably grinding. and biting!). I'm here for this in an ongoing and active way, etc.

[ART] [Captain America] Steve & Bucky fight scene by [tumblr.com profile] mmcoconut
This was meant to be recced ages ago; another casualty of pushing fanart recs to twitter first! The movement here is so great, and I love the parallel between this, where Steve and Bucky are fighting together and the scene from the highway in the film, where Bucky jumps from car/SUV in order to regroup for another pass at killing Steve dead. NOT ANYMORE. Unstoppable super soldier team. ♥

[ART] [Captain America] Good night by [tumblr.com profile] axxxxxi (Steve/Bucky)
An adorable comic made even better by a) the elephant joke, b) the speech bubbles in the last few panels, and c) Bucky's smile in the last panel. Boys. ♥

[GIFSET/META] [Captain America] nick fury is attacked by [tumblr.com profile] shardsofblu, [tumblr.com profile] intrikate88
I really appreciated a lot of the commentary that came out of this scene; it's given me a lot to think about. I love so much about this film, but some of the social commentary the built into the film really impresses me (although at this point maybe it shouldn't?), because it's so casual — in a blockbuster this size! — but so on point.

[META] [Captain America] Steve Rogers Isn’t Grandpa by [tumblr.com profile] darthstitch
I love the idea of people giving Steve a hard time for being "old", but generally I enjoy it as playing around. I'm so erratic on characterizations of Steve, because I feel like as his character is developed in the MCU, I'm learning more and more about him (because I have no comics background, and no idea where to start on a limited budget, sob) and my read on him is always in flux and complicated. But I really like this meta — it outlines the place that I arrived after the last film excellently.

[ART] [Doctor Who] Martha Jones by [tumblr.com profile] the-untempered-prism
I'm still behind on Doctor Who but I have lots of fond memories of Martha, who I loved a lot for the time we had her. The colors here are brilliant. ♥

[ART] [Guardians of the Galaxy] well, i am groot by [tumblr.com profile] wetrilo (Groot, Rocket)
This went around weeks ago, but I only recced it on Twitter on one of the Fanart Friday pushes I do, and then forgot to write it up. But it's absolutely worth reccing again, for the excellent line work, fantastic colors, symbolism, and lighting. Really, really wonderful.

[ART] [Wonder Woman] Wonder Woman by [tumblr.com profile] joeyart
I said on Twitter: "Your day was lacking Wonder Woman riding a 2-headed unicorn. Now this need is filled. You're welcome." I had to take out some of the awesome due to character limits, because it's even more awesome than even that. SUPER GREAT and cheerful. :D

[ART] [Xena] Xena by [tumblr.com profile] shorelle
Xena! I'm currently engaged in a rematch of the first 13 episodes in order to fuel a ~secret project~ so I was happy to see this. The movement here is really great. :D

[VID] [The Sarah Connor Chronicles] The Sower by [personal profile] chaila (4:51) (Sarah Connor)
This vid gives me a lot of incoherent Sarah feels, especially because of the shots of John crying in her lap. It's a beautiful and multi-layered vid, and I'd like to watch it more to help me analyse everything it contains. I know it's one I'll come back to often (and probably one I'll shove in front of anyone who wants more chrome ass heroines). So excited that the 'No Fate' carving is included because I feel like that's a powerful image of revolution, and it has the same kind of effect on me that Katniss' hand sign does.

[VID] [The Musketeers] Again by [personal profile] franzeska (3:08) (Ensemble)
Just when I think I'm done with dudebro shows Thom Burke appears in one and I'm sunk. When The Musketeers first appeared I found this show so dull and then three episodes in these guys started ruling my life. Hopefully this vid will go some way to explaining why - just look at these cuties <3

As you'd expect, The Musketeers has a tight team structure at its heart. The opening of this vid builds a narrative that illustrates the importance of the team by using footage to show how the four men move from being in conflict with each other to establishing a bond. I thought it was especially smart to pull out all the dubious past relationships which feature in various episodes, and line them up one after the other to reinforce how being with The Musketeers differs from being in other partnerships.

This vid is so much fun! The Musketeers may be dramatic and angsty in places - as you can probably guess from the number of minor characters who perish in this vid — but it's also a big fluffy period piece about ridiculous dudes with nice smiles who care about each other. I loved seeing a vid embrace that side of the show, and it was cool to see a vid which could include all of that angst (Milady/Athos — I will never be over it) and yet not be weighed down by it. Great use of pop rock to create a vid which keeps a consistent tone, but never feels like it's out of step with the material. I especially liked that the vid mocks the Cardinal by calling him 'a big rain cloud', which is both adorable and appropriate. One of my favourite vids of 2014.

[VID] [The Musketeers] 500 Miles by Fleur de Lis (2:58) (Athos, Aremis, d'Artagnan, Porthos)
Maybe the song choice is funnier if you're from a country that plays this Proclaimers song constantly? Either way, I enjoyed seeing a really bro-centric video about the team supporting each other and spending all their time hanging out.

[VID] [The Musketeers] Light 'em Up by deossejuti mansur (3:13) (Ensemble)
This vid is pretty much all about fight scenes, violence and emotions dealt with knives. Admittedly I was sold early on as this vid matches sword strokes to song beats in the first few shots, which I think it cool (I'm really into vids that use the beat of their song to shape their choice of shots or footage). It also includes a speech section from Milady that I'd forgotten about: 'I'm not looking for absolution, I want revenge!' she shouts while strangling a priest. Boss.

And it uses Constance's big sword fighting scene! Fighting ladies, hot guys, swords and explosions! I am a girl of simple tastes.
