[VID] [Pacific Rim] Gun by
This is such a beautiful story of Mako's journey through the film. The bridge here is particularly striking, where the lyrics flip, and for just a quick moment we see Mako's resolve filtered through Stacker's perspective. It nicely cuts back to Mako's perspective with a really excellent line drawn with color, and I must've watched this section like six times. Super great!
[VID] [Captain America: The Winter Soldier] When You Were Young by
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
My favorite thing about this is the way the perspective flips back and forth. A defining feature of this friendship is that Steve and Bucky save each other, over and over, I love how this vid draws on their friendship. Also, this vid is such a troll what with the drinking commentary. WAY TO DIG INTO MY HEART, VID. GREAT JOB.
[VID] [Captain America: The Winter Soldier] Everybody Wants To Rule The World by
Well, gird your loins for pain and suffering. I watched this vid right before I was about to go out the door to the library, was an emotional wreck, and then couldn't choose any books because everything was awful. My advice: put on some headphones, slap this on the highest quality you can, and prepare to have Serious Emotions about everyone. The killer here for me was Natasha, because the vid did such a great job highlighting some of her emotional journey. Also, I love the editing on "nothing ever last forever". Excellent editing and commentary.
[ART] [Guardians of the Galaxy] Groot by
Adorable Groot fan art done in marker. The linework here is fabulous and the addition of the snail perfect. (I wrote fic in my head about the pot being cracked because Rocket refuses to leave Groot in the ship.) :D
[ART] [Guardians of the Galaxy] Gamora by
I came out of the movie loving Gamora and Groot the most. Badass lady assassins who are in touch with their emotions who can punch you in the face? YES. The colors here are great, and as
[ART] [Guardians of the Galaxy] Star-Lord — Part time dance instructor by
This cute little comic has adorable call outs in each one, but Rocket's are my favorite, with his gun speech bubble. The texture here is so nice, too. I like that the sketchy edges of the art give a sense of movement.
[ART] [Black Widow] Black Widow by
The colors on this portrait of Natasha are so vibrant! I love the expression.
[ART] [Captain America: The Winter Soldier] Give him a hug by
This piece is very bittersweet, but it ends in heartwarming hugs, so it's fine! *sniff*
[ART] [Captain America: The Winter Soldier] Bucky by
Okay, I have been duly warned that if you are triggered by characters who may, in fact, transform quickly in your mind's eye into that one guy from True Detective, you may not like this art! However, I love this artist's style, the colors, and just the idea that Bucky might one day be comfortable enough to hang out in flop around cozy clothes and pull his hair back into messy buns. I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT BUCKY'S HAIR. Okay? Okay.
[ART] [Final Fantasy IX] Amarant and Freija by
I loved FFIX and am always happy to find fan art for it. This is especially great; really great line work, but extremely simple, and the characterization just pops out at you with that awesome red.

[COSPLAY] [Marvel] Cosplaying While Black: Female Loki by Panterona Cosplay (Loki)
I don't talk about cosplay often, but if Tumblr shoves female Thor or Loki in my eyes I feel duty bound to pass that around. If you enjoy imagining a female takeover of Asgard check out this perfect Loki cosplay. I love how her stare intensifies the threat of the eye level sword.
[VID] [The Hunger Games] Losing My Religion by
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
As previously established, I like Hunger Games vids that focus on Katniss, her emotional trauma and her position as a revolutionary figurehead. Good to see my taste remains consistent :P
Brief aside: I'm pleasantly surprised that people have found so many original ways to vid about Katniss and the revolution. Katniss' concern about inciting revolution, and the way her own trauma affects her reaction to pain and suffering, is at the heart of Catching Fire and the creative team executed the depiction of that theme with a great deal of artistry. It would be easy for vids focused on Katniss' trauma to turn into linear highlights reels set to cool songs rather than vids which help viewers to examine the original source in more depth.
Instead, I've found a wealth of Hunger Games vids that select lyrics and footage in order to perform illuminating close readings of the films. Losing My Religion is one of these vids and it's great at matching lyrics and clips to elucidate the meaning of the films, as well as the song chosen. The opening section made me think more carefully about the lyric 'the distance in your eyes' - not sure I'll ever hear that lyric the same way again.
However, my favourite moment comes when 'That was just a dream' is laid over shots of Katniss emerging into the games environment shown in Catching Fire. That moment both erases her previous win, and shows her the false promise of permanent security offered by a corrupt government. Watching this vid, I also suddenly understood that though Katniss spends Catching Fire preparing to returning to the arena, she would never have been ready to go back. Her face shows her bewilderment as she moves from seeing the arena as a far off dream to a terrifying reality. We all know Jennifer Lawrence's face is amazing, but Losing My Religion really pushes you to look at her acting under a magnifying glass.
[VID] [Pacific Rim] brother by
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
It's all the Pacific Rim teams! I had forgotten how many team relationships there were in this film (I've been kind of focused on Mako) but this vid is a great reminder that the big theme of Pacific Rim is cooperation.
Brother opens with film's shots of the wider world and shows that the whole of society is involved in the Kaiju struggle. And the shots chosen for the main body of the video show all the main characters multiple times, which emphasises that all the characters in the film were instrumental in cancelling the apocalypse. I like it when the Hansens get credit; even if Chuck is a total dick sometimes it doesn't stop him being a big goddamn hero in other areas. Compartmentalised Chuck Hansen feelings - I haz them, partly because of his relationship with his dog which makes an appearance here.
[VID] [The 100] Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Acid Yoghurt (2:31) (Ensemble)
See, sometimes I get into new fandoms — it's not all Hunger Games and Pacific Rim with me :P Although I'm really reticent about reccing The 100, I will happily rec vids from the show. I like how this vid captures the essence of The 100 — grim popcorn SFF. The slightly creepy, raspy version of the song gives it a feel of underlying menace which fits a program where terrible things are constantly happening. It's also really good at showing how the grimdark atmosphere brings the cast together, especially unlikely members of that cast like Bellamy and Clarke. I don't ship Bellarke, but I do like them as a flawed leadership team.
[VID] [Merlin] Blinding by
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
I'm hugely into vids that look at Morganna's beginnings and how oppressive Uther's Camelot appears to a young girl with magic. I love Morganna even if her totally justifiable quest to destroy Uther later becomes more about domination and destruction of Camelot's subjects. Camelot pushed her into a monster mould, and this vid illustrates how they brought about their own downfall.
[VID] [The Mindy Project] Fantasy by
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Super cute vid about Mindy and her many men. Mindy loves romcoms, and sisabet begins her vid about Mindy's love life with shots from When Harry Met Sally indicating that Mindy's life comparable to a classic romcom. <3
[VID] [Person of Interest] Follow My Feet by
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
'John tries to be a good person, but mostly fails, until he meets Finch.' — I think this vid's tag line says it all. The idea that John and Finch are good people is contentious, Finch harnesses John's skills for better reasons than those who have come before him and I'll totally suspend my moral code for jaunty vids. Predictably, I like the John/Finch section the best, and continue to be gutted by footage of Jessica's death.
[VID] [Person of Interest] Lucky You by
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Now that I've rec'd this vid I may have to ban myself from watching it again. Ugh, the feelings. The vid catches all the facial expressions John is forever making behind Finch's back and sets them to The National. Hardly fair. It makes me want to talk at length about John and Finch's dynamic, and how it should be entirely skeevy and wouldn't work anywhere else except for here where it is lovely and careful. It's just, their complete lack of ego is so refreshing. Maybe I will do this one day. Or maybe I will just watch this vid fifty times.
[GIFSET] [The Avengers] The Avengers as a 70s cop show by
This gifset does such a nice job matching the colour schemes from the various sources. And who doesn't want The Avengers solving crimes in period settings?

Love that Natasha art too.

I don't know much about PoI but approve of anything set to The National by default. PS: please write those 4000 words about their dynamic :P
