It's like people at work who make the remark after anyone not white buys something: I'm not racist, but.

In a self-help book I once read, it stated that the but in those sentences stood for BEHOLD THE UNDERLYING TRUTH. I have found this to be true in almost every single situation in my life, but especially this one. If you're disclaiming, you know what you're saying can be and probably is whatever *ism you're about to distance yourself from so you can feel less bad about being a douche.

I hope Ana knows the academic term, because I sure don't. *goes back to dummy corner*
