'what I found most jarring was that given the novelists' ability to engage with a the complex relationships of power and oppression, sexuality and relationships is that her vision of a future Brazil was very flat, stereotpyical, at times cringe-worthy and just not very inspired.' - yes, I always find it so odd when authors are great at creating diverse worlds but then fall down on research that might support those worlds. I suppose it just comes down to research time, interest in research and that everyone has spots of knowledge that are hidden from them?
