I will talk with you about Star Trek Into Darkness! I was pretty disappointed with it—seriously? I have to go back to a series from the sixties to get empowered ladies and dudes of color?—but it also made me go back to the original movies. Comparing Wrath of Khan against Star Trek Into Darkness particularly opened my eyes to how Abrams is treating the franchise. Wrath of Khan is about Kirk facing the consequences of his youthful actions, which is why it's widely considered the best Star Trek film. Star Trek Into Darkness's various homages to that film fail, because the characters haven't earned it yet. I don't care about Khan appearing in nu!Trek, because this Kirk never met him, admired him, almost had him take over his ship, exiled him to a distant planet, and indirectly killed his wife. He doesn't know him from Adam.

Yeesh.

Pacific Rim is fantastic. I can't wait to hear your podcast thoughts on it.

Once Upon a Time will eventually give you back your canon ship. Just in its own special, poorly plotted way. Oh, Once.
