I think it suffered because I watched it after Pacific Rim but at the same time I wasn't a huge fan of it generally. I just didn't care about the characters at all and when the world was saved at the end I kept comparing it to I Am Legend which I vastly preferred (Will Smith + emotionally manipulative dog best friend is more my thing it seems). What I did like was the horror and the opening credit sequence which was way more arty and political than the rest of the film. Oh and the female soldier whose hand is amputated - she was rocking.
