Maybe they're coming from a place where being paid to write is also being made to explain a concept that's..."new" is the wrong word, but potentially terrifying to present as something they've studied and understand. Is the claim of elitism a shield they're using to avoid having to learn something to teach someone else about it? It opens them up — especially in what seems to me to be a standard concept about how different aspects of life impact each other — to criticism because, yes, discussions beyond 101-level, that involve multiple perspectives can be difficult.

The fear of showing ignorance might be a driving factor here, too.
