I don't know why so often science fiction and fantasy is afraid to be critical of itself. I especially like how people congratulate this book and author for not being Eurocentric and then turn around and say "BUT FANTASY!" when the problems are pointed out. So which is it: do we care about different cultural viewpoints or do we care about ~exotic fantasy locales~? Because it can't be both.

I'm reminded of Moff's Law. I've already seen examples of this in the context of this book and its critics — people I respected, too. It's gross.
