Date: 2025-01-06 09:59 am (UTC)Through the years I have witnessed lots of drama on Goodreads where authors send their monkeys after reviewers who haven't reviewed their book favourably enough in their eyes. The most recent case I saw was over a 4-star review! Apparently nothing below 5 stars was good enough for milady.
To be fair, it also happens the other way around. People review-bombing because the author has said or done (or is perceived to have said or done) something which found fault in their eyes.
The genres I read don't tend to have the massive fanbases that romance and SFF have, so I don't think twice about giving criticism, but occasionally an author 'likes' my review on Goodreads and it does take me aback. It feels like they are looking over my shoulder, while I never meant to write it for them.
