Adventures Elsewhere — May 2018

Adventures Elsewhere collects our reviews, guest posts, articles, and other content we've spread across the Internet recently! See what we've been up in our other projects. :D

A piece by me is going to be included in Disabled People Destroy Science Fiction! I am so excited??!?! The essay is about Miles Vorkosigan + bipolar disorder (with a side order of ADHD), and it's based on my own experiences with bipolar (plus a side of ADHD). Miles comes up a lot when talking spec fic disability, but it's just about always because of his physical differences rather than how he is cleaarrrrllly neurodivergent. So I am here to talk about that! And Uncanny is publishing it! WOO. The essay is called "Miles Vorkosigan and 'Excellent Life Choices': (Neuro)Divergence and Decision-making" because when am I NOT tl;dr, come on.

And I published my first fanfic since January! It ended up being a lot about being trans — more so than I intended, but that's all right. It was interesting to write. Here it is! "drown in open air"

I reviewed "The Date" by R. K. Kalaw, "She Still Loves The Dragon" by Elizabeth Bear, and "Contingency Plans For The Apocalypse" by S. B. Divya for SFF Reviews.

I added some Goodreads reviews for graphic novels - Velvet, Vol.1: Before The Living End, Jem & the Holograms, Vol. 1: Showtime, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Vol.1: Squirrel Power, and Invincible Ironman: Ironheart, Vol.1: Riri Williams.

Jodie put out a request for a guide to catching up on superhero media, and it turns out I have opinions on the MCU (who knew?). Here's my list, with a particular focus on the movies necessary to watch the ABC and Netflix shows.

I also wrote up my thoughts on WisCon! Day Zero, Day One, Day Two, Day Three, Day Four.

Finally, I posted one fic in May, a story about Dagna for a dwarf-focused Dragon Age exchange.

I reviewed Katie O'Neill'sPrincess Princess Ever After for the Lesbrary! It's a very cute little fairy tale style comic that's a little light, but good fun nonetheless.

I watched Jurassic Park and keysmashed a little!
