1. Destiny Soria (author of Iron Cast which OMG you should be reading NOW) has a new book coming out in 2018. Sign me the fuck up!

2. A thread about one of the many reasons the upcoming Black Panther film is important.

3. Cheerleaders at Howard University take a knee.

4. A really interesting post about the real life friendships between female writers (and why we don't see these friendships in the stories told about these women). I own A Secret Sisterhood and can't wait to read it.

5. Quebec passed 'religious neutrality' legislation and, as part of the measure, Muslim women can be told to remove clothing that covers their faces if they're using public services or providing public services. Everything about this is awful.

6. A recent XKCD reminds us of the difficulties of storing and accessing digital media. I covered this topic in library school, but those conversations were mostly centered around the physical media and how they degrade over time, like paper disintegrating into dust or silver nitrate film literally becoming explosive. Physical storage is less of an issue for digital media, but access is a serious problem. I remember getting a handout speculating that a data CD in a sleeve would last at least 50 years, based on the composition of the plastic, but how many computers have CD readers any more? We have exactly two in our house, and they're both game consoles. I hope the archivists of the world are thinking about this.

7. Jay Edidon (of Jay and Miles X-Plain the X-Men) dressed as my favorite meme for Halloween, and it is delightful.

8. Sonia Saraiya wrote one of the best takes on the Harvey Weinstein story and the cascade of accusations that followed. She asks good questions about why we focus on the victims, and where the narratives that enable sexual predators come from (answer: very often, Hollywood itself).

9. I also recommend this article from the always-excellent Bim Adewunmi on the little-discussed race angles on the story, pointing out that the practice of casting actresses based on what powerful white men find sexually attractive has limited the Hollywood careers of black women and other women of color.

10. The Joy of Baking by Holly Lyn Walrath is a quiet story about baking and moving on, and I am so glad that Jodie found it for me because I love it.

11. Alex Singer has a horror story about orchards and choosing what to think about, which has bonus art by Jayd Aït-Kaci.

12. ... Which has of course reminded me that their twine game A Good Wick is absolutely horrifying and excellent.

13. The trailer for the new Final Fantasy XV DLC, Episode Ignis, has dropped, and I am so mad because this looks like the game I wanted FFXV to be and didn't get! (SO MANY SPOILERS in this trailer, obviously.)

What's with your subtitle?

It's a riff off an extremely obscure meme only Tom Hardy and Myspace fans will appreciate.
