Still reading, still fascinated.

The approach to metaphor is very similar to the one I was taught -- but it frames it in a much more technical apparatus. And one of the major concerns in cognitive metaphor study is how the use of metaphor -- not so much in imaginative language, but in ordinary conversation -- leads to drawing "wrong" conclusions about the target of the metaphor (the thing being talked about) based on knowledge about the source (the words used).
