I've seen but not read most of these -- by the 80s my tastes in SF/F were very firmly established, and they went in a different direction.

I did read The Silent Tower and liked it enough to acquire the next book, but ISTR being disappointed in that one and not going on to the third. Quite a while later, I found Hambly's Benjamin January historical mystery series and I love those, but they're not SF/F at all.

I've also read a couple of Tiger & Del short stories, probably in the Sword and Sorceress books. Which if you're looking for good 80s SF/F definitely deserve a mention. They were among the earliest theme anthologies, edited by MZB, and the theme was that the stories must have a female protagonist who was either a warrior or a mage, and who didn't depend on a man to solve her problems or get her out of trouble. A lot of good writers got their first career break by being accepted for one of those books.

The Tree of Swords and Jewels gave rise to a lovely song, performed here by Heather Alexander. There's a different version with a much more ethereal arrangement that I like better, but it's not on YouTube.
