I know what you mean about Tepper, and one of the reasons I love the True Game books is that I find them among the least message-y of her fiction. (I mean, she's still making points about various issues, but she mostly allows the reader to draw their own conclusion from the action rather than browbeating with preachy passages. At least in the first two trilogies.)
