At the end of every week, we gather at Lady Business HQ to share media thoughts and chat about the recent happenings in our tiny spheres of human experience. Feel free to join in, but note our comment policy if you're new! :D

As always, puns are welcome.

Half of the Lady Business editors are at WorldCon, so this is totally gonna be a low-key, peaceful Chaturday post. Totally.

COME BE EXCITED ABOUT CONVENTIONS AND AWARD ANNOUNCEMENTS GUYS.

(Comment screening is possibly going to be turned on around 03:00 GMT Sunday morning for a few hours, as the editor who'll be monitoring comments has to sleep sometime. Feel free to keep commenting, they'll be unscreened when she wakes up!)

OKAY, media I have consumed this week has been alternately hardcore between a) Cold Magic by Kate Elliott (GOD the husband is an asshole), b) Daredevil fic (I recommend pretty much everything [archiveofourown.org profile] lady_ragnell has written), and c) dumpster diving into the depths of my Steam Account and going "I do NOT remember buying that" a lot.

I am also really into Robot Wars at some point, and if anyone would like to come and yell about that with me I am ALL EARS.

(Guys I am SO FUCKING STOKED about Hugos tonight, I am going to be screaming very loudly on twitter most of the way through. Whether we win or lose, THANK YOU EVERYONE!)

I heartily second the rec for everything [archiveofourown.org profile] lady_ragnell has ever written (and not just for Daredevil; I'm super fond of their Merlin and Teen wolf fics, too).

Also I will also be screaming loudly about the Hugos on twitter (I'm [twitter.com profile] kaytaylorrea there, too), because YAY LADY BUSINESS and also YAY UNCANNY MAGAZINE (where I read submissions) and also YAY VARIOUS OTHER THINGS I LOVED OVER THE PAST YEAR!

I don't think I've read her Merlin or Teen Wolf fic, but I LOVE her Leverage fic, it is SO GREAT.

I WAS SO HAPPY ABOUT THE HUGOS! We were a really close second! You have a Hugo! EVERYBODY WINS! :D :D :D :D

Thanks to everyone who voted for us whatever happens :)

I had 8 days off so I read 5 books and I feel pretty accomplished. I read Monstress, This is Where the World Ends (Amy Zhang), The Shadow Hour (Melissa Grey), The Night Fisher (R. Kikuo Johnson) and Ninefox Gambit. Now working on United States of Japan.

Otherwise I have been watching so much Olympics (so many Olympic feels). And now that Olympics is winding down a bit I watched two more episodes of The Americans S1 (please send me links to all the Elizabeth vids).

Also, have been busy just shoving The Watchmaker of Filigree Street into people's hands via work (the numbers make me so happy). Oh and making fan-fic plans. And I learned how to do a few basic vid related things (clip, put a clip on a timeline, remove sound & put a clipped audip track on the same timeline). Looking forward to doing more on that.

Good luck! I don't think I will be able to watch the live stream tonight due to family stuff but I will try to check the text coverage and Twitter if I can sneak a moment.

I feel like all the media I have consumed lately has been WSFS business meeting related. I was on the YA award committee and we put forth a proposal for a Campbell like award. I'm really hoping it passes but it is last on the agenda. I am also watching to see what happens with EPH and other nomination fixes but the won't be discussed until Sunday.

ETA: The YA award made first passage! It now goes on to WorldCon 75 for ratification. I'm very pleased.

Firstly, good luck to all of the awesome folks I know who are up for awards this weekend (YAY YOU ARE ALL AWESOME CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING A+ HUMANS).

My reading has been super hit or miss recently. I've DNFed a few things I'd been looking forward to, which always sucks. I am super happy that Mary Robinette Kowal's latest novel, Ghost Talkers, is finally out because I read an ARC back in June and wanted to immediately handsell to everyone I know. I also loved The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson, about a village and its inhabitants before/during/after WWI. It gave me SO MANY FEELINGS and almost made me cry, which is a thing I do not do. I also reread (well, I listened to the audiobook this time because it was on sale) Act Like It by Lucy Parker, which is a fake dating romance about two West End actors and is an absolute DELIGHT.

I've been reading SO MUCH FIC lately, which is never a surprise, but I have a few new projects so I'm looking for specific things, which is different. If you follow me on twitter (I'm [twitter.com profile] kaytaylorrea there, too) you may have seen me having a lot of feelings about dudebros being angry about Star Trek: Discovery. Basically some people are upset about diversity and awesomeness getting all up in their space show. Anyway, in order to spread my happy Star Trek feels I'm going to be doing a Trek Rec a Day until the new show premiers. Feel free to send me your ST (any series/movies) fic recs! (Oh, and the thread is here if you want to check out the recs.)

(Also I finally posted my massive Harry/Draco fic rec list, which took roughly a million years and which is maybe my favorite thing I've ever posted on my blog.)

Welcome!
