[personal profile] captainraz is an eldritch abomination from deep within the Stygian abyss known as "Yorkshire". She craves sleep, tea and the souls of the damned. She can usually be found in bed, writing feverishly, or over on Twitter crying about the faces of fictional people. Further ramblings can be found at her blog and over on AO3. Her original fiction can be found here.

When Susan approached me about doing a fanworks rec post I was like "sure I can make a list of ten fanworks I really, really like." And then I thought "shit, can I actually narrow it down to just ten?".

Hi, my name is Tonks and I have a problem.

So, here are 10 (ish) recommendations from my many varied fandoms.

[ART] [Babylon 5] Super 90s Lisa Frank Fanart by [tumblr.com profile] ladyyatexel (G'kar/Londo Mollari)

Oh Babylon 5. I have cried my eyes out to that show pretty much more than any other I've ever seen. Excellently plotted, gritty, dark, and two of the main characters want to kill (or kiss) each other. So of course LadyYate-xel decided to draw them as brightly coloured Lisa Frank characters like they belong on a folder from my school days. I love it so much it hurts. She also gave the same treatment to Garak and Bashir from DS9 and I love that just as much.

[PLAYLIST] [Star Trek: Deep Space Nine] This Might Hurt by alenislaren  (8 tracks) (Jadzia Dax/Lenara Kahn)

The title of the playlist is wrong; this will definitely hurt. This playlist is specifically for tragic space girlfriends in the Star Trek universe, but I've found it's pretty apt for tragic space girlfriends in any fandom (I'm looking at you RussianWinters). This playlist introduced me to a couple of my new favourite artists. 8tracks is being weird in some countries so if you just want the track list that's here.

[FIC] [Devil Wears Prada] The Boxers by [archiveofourown.org profile] Brithna (17068 words) (Miranda Priestly/Andrea Sachs)

I have basically been living in the Devil Wears Prada fandom since December and could have suggested any number of fics for this post. While Telanu's Truth and Measure is what got me into DWP, this is the fic I keep rereading whenever I feel down. If imagining Anne Hathaway in boxer shorts and tank tops is relevant to your interests you need to read this fic. And then all of Brithna's other DWP fic.

[ART] [Dragon Age: Inquisition] PUTTING THE LGBT IN LGBT by [tumblr.com profile] kayadoodlesthings (Sera, Dorian Pavus, Iron Bull, Krem)

Modern AU with some of Inquisition's queer characters in ridiculous glasses and t shirts? Check. I love this for many reasons, not just because all four of them are my precious babies. I love that the artist has put them in order of LGBT. Mostly I just want Krem's t shirt; I'm here, I'm queer, can I go back to bed now?. Team Inqueersition all the way.

[FIC] [Marvel Cinematic Universe] United States v. Barnes, 617 F. Supp. 2d 143 (D.D.C. 2015) by [archiveofourown.org profile] radialarch & [archiveofourown.org profile] fallingvoices (20,605 words) (Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes)

Modern epistolary goodness with two super soldiers fighting their feelings for each other while one of them is on trial for multiple murders? Yes please. I screamed when I finished this.

[FIC] [Harry Potter] Under the Table by Lady Brackell (32,183 words) (Remus Lupin/Nymphadora Tonks)

Okay, so my name is Tonks for a reason and there's no way I could put together a rec list without including some good old fashioned RLNT fic. Featuring classic "arguing as flirting" tropes and a tequila drinking competition. Teenage me interpreted this fic as guidelines for romance and now I have a husband. Go figure.

[FIC] [Star Trek: Deep Space Nine] A Solid(ary) Man by laurelgirl120 (~106,000 words) (Odo/Kira Nerys)

Set after the season 7 finale and ties up Odo and Kira's fates in a much more shipper friendly manner. It's novel length, it deals with what canon gave us really well and I just love it. It reminds me that there's so much fanwork like this we've already lost (and stand to lose) and makes me super grateful for archives like AO3 and ff.net, no matter their shortcomings.

[FIC] [Lord of the Rings/Silmarillion] When First We Parted by Laura L. (31,224 words) (Galadriel/Celeborn)

Lord of the Rings was my very first fandom. The first fanfic ever read (and then later wrote) was for LotR. I didn't even know what fanfic was until then. I first came across this story over on theonering.net and it quickly became a favourite, even though I hadn't actually read the Silmarillion at the time (that took me years to get through and while I'm glad I did it, never again). Because who doesn't want a novella length story about Galadriel and Celeborn falling in love? After forgetting the title for almost a decade I was finally reacquainted with this story last month and I am so happy you have no idea. This story is responsible for so much.

[FIC] [Star Trek: Deep Space Nine] Deep Dish Nine by [archiveofourown.org profile] LadyYateXel (66,000+ words) (Mostly Garak/Julian Bashir)

Deep Dish Nine as a thing deeply amuses me. What started as an offhand comment about a ridiculous episode of the show has snowballed into something greater. Now it's an open source, open world collaborative AU that's grown to include not just the DS9 character, but basically all the Trek series. The premise is simple everyone is human and the characters work in and around a pizza shop. That's it. For some reason the fandom latched onto this idea and now tons of people are writing and drawing for it, including myself. There's even  merchandise (I have that shirt). I have never known anything like it and I love it. I also recommend [archiveofourown.org profile] tinsnip's stories set in the same universe, especially her version of the Wire.

[FIC] [Dragon Age] Do Not Fear the Dark by [archiveofourown.org profile] Axis_II (101,329 words) (Female Inquisitor/Cassandra Pentaghast, Leliana/Female Warden, Female Hawke/Isabela)

I have spent a lot of time in the Dragon Age fandom lately, and struggled to pick my favourite work for it. In the end I went for this one which include three of my favourite ships. Set after the main plot of Inquisition, Isabela drags the Inquisitor and her gang off to the Deep Roads after Hawke, resulting in lots of adventures and one pairing realising their feelings for each other. The sequel, Acts of the Divine, is also pretty great.

[ART] [Ghostbusters 2016] Holtzmann by [tumblr.com profile] kevinwada

There’s a difference between sexy and sexualized, and this delightful pin-up of Jillian Holtzmann perfectly shows why Holtzmann is sexy as all get out but not sexualized. The only thing that’s keeping me from buying a print of this at FlameCon this weekend is that yellow is not an accent color in my bedroom.

[ART] [Multifandom] 25 lifetimes + multifandom by [tumblr.com profile] c0ffeebee (Too many ships to name!)

I've seen variations of this quote and comic floating around tumblr before—there’s a very pretty Rey/Kylo one that I can’t seem to find at the moment—but this is the first time I’ve seen someone use this conceit to frame twenty-five different ships as the same ship, which I think is really beautiful. Fandom in the tumblr era can feel very fragmented, so it’s a lovely sentiment to see it all linked together.

[ART] [Disney] Famous Disney Characters As Ethnically Correct Humans by [tumblr.com profile] pugletto (Ensemble)
I love this set of Disney fanart that imagines all the characters as humans and does such a great job. The commentary on this is 100% correct: Kovu is hot, whether lion or human. Damn but I love Lion King II. Also, the shirt on Oliver and the gloves they gave Dodger are perfect.

[ART] [Star Wars: The Force Awakens] Finn/Poe by [tumblr.com profile] baan00 (NSFW)
I haven't rewatched The Force Awakens recently because I do not have time for 9,000 fic ideas like I had after the first time I saw it (which I also did not have time for), but fandom keeps giving me fanart like this. *kisses fingers*

[ART] [Avengers Academy] Doodles of AVAC T’challa by [twitter.com profile] suppiedoodles
I love all Suppie's art so much and I've glutted myself on their Avengers Academy work because the characters are already so cute and well designed that when artists get to put their own spin on them they become 300% cuter immediately. The little doodle at the top with T'Challa snoozing with a tail and ears is my favorite.

[VID] [Ancillary Justice] "Ancillary Justice" Book Trailer by [personal profile] bironic (1:28) (Ensemble) — Oh, this is gorgeous and really well put together! The choice of footage is really well done – according to the creator note it was for a vidshow focusing on fandoms with no obvious visual sources, like books – and the result fits together pretty much seamlessly. And the choice of character for Breq is great. (Plus, the amount of detail in the creator notes is A+, now I want to go scrounging through the list of sources to watch things.)

[FIC] [Mortal Engines] Form and Function by [archiveofourown.org profile] Baconfat (590 words) (Shrike, Hester) — TRUE STORY: Shrike gave me nightmares when I read Mortal Engines (It turns out "implacable cyborg assassins made from re-animated corpses hunting people" gives me nightmares, and you'd think there wouldn't be a big enough sample size for me to know that and you'd be wrong) but this fic —
kinda makes it better! Shrike is still creepy and inhuman, but in a comprehendable way? And young Hester is a great combo, especially for their attitudes to Shrike fixing things.

[ART] [Hamilton] by [tumblr.com profile] paticmark (Marquis de Lafayette, Aaron Burr, Alexander Hamilton) — The silhouettes and layers of shading here are really atmospheric and effective at setting the different moods, and I think the fact that Lafayette stands out so well in the confusion of a greyscale battle piece is really well done!

What's with your subtitle?

It's a riff off an extremely obscure meme only Tom Hardy and Myspace fans will appreciate.
