He's such an interesting character— not merely "gay" but with a more complex and nuanced sexuality; and being disabled, yet not having that override his identity or sexuality. Summarily killing off such a complex character is a cop-out. It's the easy way to avoid resolving his complexities. Even setting aside the homophobic tropes, he deserved to have an actual resolution that lives up to the complexity of his character.
