Since I definitely can come up with a fantasy series by a female author: Robin Hobb wrote The Farseer Trilogy (Assassin's Apprentice, Royal Assassin, Assassin's Quest) and The Tawny Man Trilogy (Fool's Errand, Golden Fool, Fool's Fate), which is a direct sequel of the first one. And they are all marvelous, honest to god)
