Still Nameless Feature: There's Probably Hope Somewhere

At the end of every week, we gather at Lady Business HQ to share media thoughts and chat about the recent happenings in our tiny spheres of human experience. Feel free to join in, but note our comment policy if you're new! :D

As always, puns are welcome.

This week was so terrible that there are no words for it. Have a blanket fort.

a dog pulls a blue blanket off the top of a cage and wraps up in it as he climbs in and lays down

We've discussed names like Chaturday, Business Casual, The Water Trough, and Ponies Express. Clearly we can use some help and would appreciate your suggestions (feel free to vote in the comments, too)!

What should we call this adventure?

So I have the Spider-Gwen: Most Wanted? trade but I feel like I need to read something before it. They do this whole catch-up sequence but because it was so far away from what I know about Peter Parker (basically just from watching Spiderman films) I got really confused. Any recommendations on earlier reading?

I have done very little this week except finish The Geek Feminist Revolution which was wonderful. I did acquire a few books - Ms Marvel Vol. 5, Spinster, Negroland, Man Up and Amanda Palmer's book. And I got told my customer order for Ninefox Gambit came in over the weekend. Trouble is, I already want a ton of new paperbacks even though I just bought stuff. Help!

I'm watching a couple of series live because people from Merlin are in them. Versailles which has turned out to be terrible but Alex Vlahos plays French royalty who lived with his male lover so what are you gonna do. I am mostly ranking people's hair while watching it. And I started watching The Living and the Dead which is a bit of a meh historical/ghost story at the mo. However, it's by the people who made Ashes to Ashes and there have been mysterious instances of modernity showing up so there must be surprises in store. Colin Morgan is in that and I'm loving Charlotte Spencer who plays his wife.

I saw a gif from the VM film the other day and was like 'totally forgot this happened, must rewatch'. It's sooo goooood!

Also, have you tried iZombie? It's got similar whip-smart lines (although I don't think it's as clever as VM).

I keep meaning to go back and watch the older series (I started getting into it at 5). It's so good for comfort watching because everyone is so nice and there's none of the snark or humiliation from other reality shows.

I haven't read any of her other appearances, but the reason I so gladly got into her own comic is because my understanding of it is she's based off an alternate universe, so there isn't really much to catch up on. And Google seems to back me up on that.

According to Internet:
Her actual origin has been skipped completely. The backstory overview is that on the high school trip, Gwen was bitten by the spider instead of Peter, then Peter was envious of the new spider-person and turned himself into the lizard, they ended up fighting, and he died.
The events of Spider-Verse happen to her before her own comic starts up, but those appearances don't get into any more detail, so they're not essential reading.

It's definitely Edge of Spider-Verse #2 as her first appearance.
Edge of Spider-Verse #2
Amazing Spider-Man Volume 3 #9 - #11
Spider-Woman Volume 5 #1
Spider-Verse Team-Up #2 (Second Story)
Amazing Spider-Man Volume 3 #12 - #15
Spider-Gwen #1 - #4

I have heard iZombie is great but I have this irrational thing against almost every zombie ever. There are so far 2 exceptions - a short story called 'The Memory of Breathing' by Lyn Battersby and the ridiculous game 'Plants vs Zombies' and then I get stuck at my non-zombie barricade. I don't even know why I dislike them so much but I somehow reaaaaalllly do. Is it a show where I can forget they're zombies by any chance? It's been rec'd to me so many times!

Enjoy the book fest! It sounds awesome! Amanda Palmer's book is on my to-read list also. I am also trying to figure out how to read again after a few weeks of almost no reading because I couldn't deal. Now I can and I can't figure it out again all of a sudden. Lol. I'll get there!

Many of the zombies get fake tans so they can avoid detection if that helps (not Luv though, she rocks zombie hair). So they just look & act like regular people (bar the necessary brain eating). It's really a 'monster of the week' cop show with psychic visions & a long running plot about paying bad guys for brains.

I've not read any of Stephenson's work before. However, one of the reasons I signed up to vote in the Hugo Awards this year was to broaden my reading horizons. So I shall probably have a go (even if I don't get to it until after the deadline).

Hey guys! I legit opened this comment box and went "... Did I even consume any media this week?" Which is no slight upon the media I did consume, I just... Have no memory.

I watched Now You See Me and Now You See Me 2 this week! (I would have LOVED the second one to have been called Now You Don't, but I can see why they didn't I GUESS.) NYSM was pretty good! It had magic tricks and heists and I was 100% correct in all of my guesses about the plot except for who those guesses were about. NYSM2 was... Way less coherent? I enjoyed Daniel Radcliffe's character immensely, and Mark Ruffalo's character continues to be my favourite (with Morgan Freeman's), but... Eh. I did like Lula's role in the story being to gently adjust the lampshade of its tropes! ("I'm the girl Horseman!" she says, because female characters in a action movie work on the Highlander principle.)

Avengers Academy is still where I live, but I'm kinda... Stalling out because I still don't care about Peter Parker? And I am trying to save up the 119,000 Generic Monetary Units to level up Sif, because apparently it is VERY EXPENSIVE to level up characters after their event ends. >_> But I have Black Cat now, which is what I wanted! And hyper-caffinated!reporter!Wasp gives me life, especially because anything that scares Black Widow is impressive.

... Seriously, what else did I consume this week?

Well, it definitely looks like it's possible to get past my barricade. Maybe it will be something my partners like and it can be on our dinner watching menu (finding things all 3 of us agree on is hard) :P

Look, I just needed to have something that I could buy you for significant life events until the end of time and an on-going manga series that is in no libraries anywhere seemed like a good call, okay? Plus, it's a long-running shoujo manga series, I don't think those EVER END. Kyoko is super terrifying and also A DELIGHT, I love her.

I seem to recall it being TRIPPY AS BALLS and also maybe there's a monkey? But I am genuinely not sure I didn't hallucinate for an hour and a half, so I might be thinking of the wrong movie.

My housemate has been watching iZombie and I have been mostly ignoring it, but I am desperate for Liv to get together with the police officer, and someone needs to make-out with the mortician because he is SUPER APPEALING.
