I was obviously deep in a 'I really feel unhappy giving money to an institution who would straightwash the world if that move promised companies more money' wave when I read that post so positively. I mean I've done the protesting with my money thing. Now I try to keep responsible book buying a sustained part of my spending habits (it doesn't always work out and new issues are always cropping up)but when there's a blow up like this I find myself thrown into confusion. Is it working, even slowly and will this kind of strategy ever work, or am I just giving money to companies that will never change because they're so wrapped up in old assumptions that new market information makes no impact on them? Am I even giving money in the right direction to be part of the slow change, or am I making things worse? Obviously by that point my thoughts have become way too much about me...
I want to believe it will work, because the knowledge that 'money talks' is the best information available. But I wonder if old, cultural assumptions might not obscure the true source of any money people start to see roll in and prevent change.
