Hmm! Well, yes, the whole subverting the gender thing. For me it comes down to an overall look at how she frames gender roles themselves. It's very binary, throughout the whole story. You are X, and you can only be X, no matter what, and these are the aspects of those roles you can have. So she locked Katniss and Peeta into them where they couldn't really have depth beyond it. Which is not bad, per se, because you can still like the characters (for instance, I really like Katniss a lot despite my misgivings about her characterization, she pretty much won me over in the meeting with the Gamemakers) it just makes it...less interesting for me.

(I am really not surprised they asked her to make the triangle more prominent. I guess it paid off from them considering all the TEAM speak, but boy is it awkward for some of us. Shoehorned in, if you will.)

Ahaha, Amy, is that an invitation to actually review the other books (I was going to read them, but not review them, because why make everyone feel like crap over liking them when I know I am going to have Epic Problems...?
