I didn't necessarily need the book to discuss it, but it would have been nice for the book to acknowledge the points it was raising and explore them instead of wandering off the Love Triangle Central. A big defense of this book is "hey, they deal with that explicitly in other books!" but if I have to read multiple to books to get the first one to hold up, that's a hot mess. That's so not my shtick.
I agree with you, though, that it could have been more. I have discussed this book with owlmoose about how the writing keeps the story tethered to so-so, and she informed me Collins was a television writer so I have really, really high hopes that the movie is going to be able to explore more things the book hinted at but never bothered to unpack because her writing is made for the visual.
I never feel passionate about super popular things, so we can form a club. ;)
