Just three recs from me this week. I've mostly been watching Festivids and I didn't have time to add fanvid recs to this post after reveals went live. So I'll squee all over my favourite 2015 vids in the next Fanwork Recs (I'm so excited to find out who made the Call the Midwife vid this year).

I'm very fond of Morgana fanwork that reminds us she is a violent force of magical nature. Part of what makes the text chosen for this gifset fit with Morgana's character is that she encompases both the positive and the deadly sides of words like wolf, dragon, warrior; even queen. She's wild, magical and you can't help but be drawn to her, but she's also full of monster energy and she'll take whatever she needs. One to keep your distance from unless she's just fed.

And maybe this makes me a terrible person, but the whole quote attached to this gif set reminds me why I love Morgana. The idea that a woman can be so terrible she draws everyone's focus and forces her way into their lives to become 'the heart of their nightmares' is perfect for Morgana. Her entire journey is about wresting back power and making people see her story. I have kind of a problem making evil queens into feminist role models...

I'm writing a Merlin fanfic for Round Three of heroinebigbang! so I get to look at a lot of feminist Gwen & Morgana art as "research". My favourite thing about this gifset is the use of repeated red detail. It must take so much attention and work to colour theme a set so rigorously and avoid making it all glaring and matchy.
