[ART] [IDW Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye] Megatron by [tumblr.com profile] cosmicdanger (Human!Megatron)
A good friend threw MTMTE at me just recently and even though it took a while to learn to tell the robots apart, I immediately fell in love with the fun dialogue and complex morality and the more than one same-pronoun romance! It makes me so, so happy how many fanartists draw my fav gay space robots as human women. This Megatron is fantastic — you can tell who she is at a glance even without a uniform or a badge, and you can feel her power and charisma. She is huge, as she should be. Warning for blood.

[FIC] [Final Fantasy VIII/Final Fantasy XIII] With These Signs Upon Our Souls by [archiveofourown.org profile] Riona (Cast) (26,719 words)
I have a hard time reccing fanfic because I'm so freaking picky about it. I very rarely make it through the first thousand words of a fic before giving up when it doesn't perfectly fit my absurdly specific tastes. This fic sort of exemplifies what I want out of fanfiction: friendship! Teamwork! Story elements that feel very much like the canon while still dealing with new ideas and developing the characters further! It's fun and a little heartbreaking and everyone is in character and the dialogue is excellent and it just makes me really happy.

[ART] [Avatar: The Last Airbender] More grown-up TyZula! by [tumblr.com profile] noodlerface (Ty Lee/Azula)
I have an uncomfortable soft spot for this pairing, and I absolutely love the body language, the lighting and the whole concept here. Perfection.

[META] [Fullmetal Alchemist] I'd kill for more backstory on Roy's childhood. by [tumblr.com profile] phantomrose96 (Roy) (437 words)
I love FMA for featuring so many fantastic women, and I especially love women as role models for other characters. This bit of meta is a lovely look at how Roy's character has been shaped and influenced in a positive way by the women in his life, how that shows through in the series, and how it subverts his womanizer persona.

[FIC] [Lackadaisy Cats] Relatively Unreasonable by [archiveofourown.org profile] jonesandashes (2162 words) (Zib/Dom, Ivy, Viktor)
This fic is a DELIGHT. It captures the tone of the comic wonderfully, and the particular way all the characters are odd and erratic and a little bit tragic. Plus it's hilarious, and the comedic timing is perfect.

[ART] [IDW Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye] graceful warrior & clunky old medic by [tumblr.com profile] alfheimr (Drift/Ratchet)
I found this on an MTMTE art binge, and I remember scrolling through it, going, "This isn't in-charact—oh my god!" Yes, yes it is. And it is wonderful: the progression, the expressions, and the timing are all fantastic.

[FIC] [Uncharted] In the Thick of It by [archiveofourown.org profile] Rhiannon87 (Elena/Nate, Chloe, Sully) (16,112 words)
I want to read so much more fic spotlighting Elena's investigative journalism. I love everyone and this author does a fantastic job with all of their voices. It's just a deeply satisfying story.

[ART] [Ancillary Justice] Breq and Seivarden by [tumblr.com profile] jasminejbatista (Breq, Seivarden)
There's so much I love about this: Breq's uniform, the tea bowl, Seivarden's profile, their body language.

[META] [Hannibal] "ethics becomes aesthetics" by [tumblr.com profile] 22drunkb (Hannibal) (1,600 words)
I have to admit, I Did Not Get this show when I first watched it. There were things I loved about it, but a lot of other things that confused, repelled, and annoyed me. I found season two so baffling and infuriating that I swore I wouldn't watch any more, but after spoiling myself for the third season I realized I needed to give it a shot, and I'm so glad I did. It turned out to be a very satisfying show on a number of levels, but even more than that I've come to love the fandom. There are so many layers, allusions and references in this show that went totally over my head, and it has been an absolute joy to see all of it discussed and dissected by so many knowledgeable and critical fans. It's fascinating to me how this incredibly weird and layered show can be read on so many different levels by different people, and it's meta like this that's helped me understand why that is and what people are seeing in it that I'm not. I especially enjoyed this incisive piece, about Hannibal's code of ethics, because it made so many things click into place for me about Hannibal's decisions and drives, and how Will throws a wrench into all of it.

[FIC] [Final Fantasy XIII] Jewelry by [archiveofourown.org profile] Laylah (Fang, Lightning) (480 words)
I'm always impressed at how a good author can put so much into a short scene like this one: Lightning's grudging respect for Fang, Fang gently ribbing her, the boys being worried, Lightning trying to be a good sister even though she is terrible at feelings! I can't handle it.

By way of John Wisell on twitter, itself recced to me by Susan.

[ART] [Captain America] Steve Rogers/Suspenders by [tumblr.com profile] baneme-art
Here is Steve Rogers wearing suspenders with Iron Man fasteners and a smile. You already know if that's a thing you'll like.

[ART] [Hamilton] Nemesis by [tumblr.com profile] dorothywonderland (Aaron Burr)
I love when people remix Kate Beaton's excellent comic with fandom subjects. The results are always excellent, but THESE specific results are EXTRA EXCELLENT.

[ART] [Court of Fives] Jessamy by [tumblr.com profile] faitherinhicks
LOOK AT THIS GREAT COURT OF FIVES ART! It's Jessamy being super active and dynamic! omg I love finding fanart for books with small fandoms, it's like my BIRTHDAY. :D :D :D

[FIC] [Young Avengers] Triskelion Crescent by [archiveofourown.org profile] seventymilestobabylon (24,473 words) (Young Avengers!, Steve/Tony)
I try not to rec WIP (I know), but this is fandom and sometimes excellent stories just don't have an ending but the journey is still super great. However, in THIS CASE, I know the story is already done. I have seen it. It is complete and will be revealed in time. It is also an excellent Florist AU with Steve owning a flower shop and Tony as a developer and it's told in epistolary format, mostly via the Young Avengers and their awesome social network. I will likely rec this again when it's finally completed BUT REALLY I THINK IF YOU LIKE AUS AND FLOWER SHOPS AND KATE AND ELI AND STEVE/TONY YOU SHOULD TRY THIS.

[VID] [The Losers] Journey by [archiveofourown.org profile] franzeska (3:34) (Jensen/Cougar)
I have no idea if any if any of y'all have read The Losers comic, but I was not okay with the ending. It was a logical end to a character arc, but I still had FEELINGS. ... This vid is crack and apparently has time-travel/universe-hopping nonsense to make it better and I love it. Especially because there's a really neat mix of canons here (someone please tell me where I can lay hands on the ones in Spanish because Piratas looks pretty good!) and I think that and the way the vid is assembled is really cool and does a good job telling a story. :D

[FIC] [Final Fantasy VIII] Bitterblue by [archiveofourown.org profile] Regann (4,514 words) (Quistis Trepe)
This is a look at Quistis before she becomes the young woman we meet in the game, and I quite like it! The building blocks of Quistis' personality are there, and the meta about innate magic is fairly well thought through! (Especially because I think it takes into account people like Selphie, who can just DO MAGIC when stressed.) Plus, everyone sounds believably young and worried!

[FIC] [Sherlock Holmes/Silent Hill] Holmes and Watson in Silent Hill by [personal profile] thebaconfat (1,695 words) (Doctor John Watson, Sherlock Holmes)
Okay, full disclosure, Baco has pretty much been my fanfic idol for years (I want to write like her! ;___; ), and this fic is a solid example of why. It's subtle and creepy and atmospheric and has some fantastic details (The doctor's bags as save points! The lamps hissing!), and the way all of the details and inconsistencies and things being wrong build to That Ending make me so happy.

It's a riff off an extremely obscure meme only Tom Hardy and Myspace fans will appreciate.
